CERAMICS

Clay on the Wheel with Gina DeSantis - all levels

Mondays, 6:30-8:30pm

Relax and sooth your mind by throwing bowls or cups on the ceramics wheel, or try a more advanced project such as a plate or a teapot. Classes are small to allow for individual instruction at all skill levels. Become a part of one of the most popular programs at Art House! All clays are food, microwave and dishwasher safe.

Class fee: $125

Gina DeSantis is a ceramic artist living and working in Lakewood, Ohio. She holds a BFA from Cleveland State University and an MFA in ceramics from Kent State University. Her work revolves around the parallel ideas of making objects by hand and the ritual of their use, focusing on the interaction between objects and their environment. Gina has taught extensively in the Cleveland area to all ages and skill levels.

Glaze Workshop with Gina DeSantis - all levels

Saturday, March 6

10:00am - 1:00pm

Discover a range of exciting glazing methods to decorate your functional or sculptural ceramics, This workshop will cover beginning to advanced techniques, including wax resist, sgraffito, incising, slip trailing and combing. Tiles will be provided for practicing these decorating styles, or students currently enrolled in a ceramics course may utilize their own pieces.

Clay Sculpture with Mark Yasenchack

Thursdays, February 4 - March 4

6:30 - 8:30pm

Clay is an incredibly versatile material encompassing a rich history and a diverse array of applications. In this class, venture beyond the usual pinching, coiling and slab-building by learning new techniques with which to manipulate clay. Beginners will develop a strong understanding of fundamental principles; advanced students will expand their repertoire of skills and unlock fresh creative possibilities.

Mark Yasenchack, a graduate of Baldwin-Wallace College, is a ceramic and collage artist who has exhibited in galleries across Ohio. In addition to his position as Gallery Manager at River Gallery in Rocky River, Mark is a skilled instructor with teaching experience at Heights Arts, Brecksville Center for the Arts and Cleveland Institute of Art. He draws inspiration for his work from the fine crafts of antiquity, finding challenge in creating ornate and timeless works without artifice.    

2D MEDIA

Oil and Acrylic on Canvas with Bonnie Dolin

Wednesdays, March 10 - April 14

6:30 - 8:30pm

Get started with oils and acrylics, or strengthen your existing painting skills. Students will learn techniques for paint application, layering, color and composition, working from still lifes in the Art House studio. Whether you lean towards the abstract or the realistic, you are sure to discover new abilities and areas of exploration. Some class time will be used for group critique and discussion.

Bonnie Dolin is a painter and printmaker whose work has appeared in solo and group exhibitions throughout the Cleveland area for nearly three decades. She has taught at several area colleges and has worked with children through Young Audiences since 1995. Bonnie received her BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art and her MFA from Kent State University. Bonnie is a recipient of the 2001 Ohio Arts Council Individual Artist Award.

Mixed Media Drawing with Melinda Placko

Wednesdays, April 21 - May 19

6:30 - 8:30pm

Expand your definition of drawing! Using pencils, pens, charcoal, pastels, acrylics and collage, students will explore a variety of techniques on a wide range of surfaces. Take this opportunity to experiment and try something new. Which material works best to express yourself?

Melinda Placko received her BFA in painting from the Cleveland Institute of Art and her MFA from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a focus in public and collaborative art. She manages Village Art Studio in Cleveland and has taught art for more than nine years in Ohio and Massachusetts.

KIDS

"Under the Sea" Printmaking with Kate Ward Terry

Saturdays, March 27 - April 17

9:30 - 11:00am

Kids will create sea monsters, mermaids and other creatures of the deep while learning basic printmaking techniques. Ink, paint, stamping and stenciling will bring young imaginations to life, as students develop new skills and appreciation for art.

Class fee: $60

Ages: 6 to 9

Kate Ward Terry holds a BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art and has exhibited her prints, enamels and drawings throughout the United States and England. She has taught previously at Art House, Inc. and Zygote Press, always with the belief that every individual possesses a distinct creative ability.

3 and Me

Tuesdays, March 9, 16, 23, 30

10:00 - 11:00am

Your three (or four) year old is sure to love this program, and you will too! Designed specifically for adults and toddlers to work, learn and grow together, 3 and Me will introduce a fun new art project each week. Painting, clay, collage- enjoy them all without worrying about the mess!

Enjoy spending time with your family as you make individual pieces or family art works. Each month has a theme and Art House provides the materials. Make an adventure of it by exploring your imagination and using those creative images to form your art work.

ART HOUSE CLASS REGISTRATION TERMS AND CONDITIONS

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE CALLING TO REGISTER FOR A CLASS.

ALL TERMS AND CONDITIONS APPLY FOR CREDIT CARD REGISTRATION OVER THE PHONE. PLEASE CONTACT ART HOUSE WITH ANY QUESTIONS.


• All students must register for classes and programs directly with Art House. Full payment must be received at time of registration.
• After the 1st meeting for the class/program full fees are non-refundable except for illness. Refunds due to illness require a letter from a medical provider.
• Art House has the right to cancel classes/programs due to lack of enrollment. Art House will reimburse those students who have paid for classes.
• Art House staff will contact students directly to notify of class cancellation and/or changes due to lack of enrollment.
• 80% of tuition is refundable from time of registration until the 1st meeting of class unless class in cancelled due to lack of enrollment.
• Makeup classes/programs will only be scheduled if a teacher cancels or due to inclement weather.
• In the event of bad weather please contact Art House for information on cancellations. Art House will reschedule any cancelled classes/programs due to bad weather in cooperation with the instructor.
• Students will not be offered make up classes if the student cannot attend.
• You will not be contacted for confirmation prior to class start date.
• Wheelchair accessible entrance and restrooms.
• Parent/Adult Student agrees to permit Art House to use photographs and/or video for public relations and media use related to Art House only.
